Death Be Not Proud
The poem ‘Death Be Not Proud’ by John Donne explores the concept of death and what
it means for humans to end their lives. The author is mocking death and comparing it to rest or
sleep, something that is normal and not frightening in the slightest. This is a metaphysical poem
that explores concepts that do not have a physical touch in the real world. The use of
personification, tone and symbolism help drive the reader to fully understand the ode to death the
author is trying to convey.
