Community Service Reflection
For my community service hours I completed it at Balwin Academy with Mrs. Gabela. I
decided to do my community service hours at an elementary school because after my years
in elementary I was not able to go back and view how the teachers did things until my
senior year of high school. I was able to see during that time that being a teacher isn’t as
relaxing as students think. I decided to do my hours at the elementary because I know how
hard it is for teachers to maintain more than 30 assignments from students.
During my community service hours, I was able to observe that even though students do
not realize how much work a teacher puts in, the hours spent after school are tremendous.
Students generally think that teachers just go home relax and because of that complain
about how much homework they give but in reality teachers have just as much or even
more work than the students to do at home. In elementary school I always wondered how
things got lamented overnight, and made to look nice, but I did not once think that my
teacher was doing it afterschool or even during their own time. It made me appreciate my
teachers more.
