Community Observation Analysis
1. Go to a public place and OBSERVE the community of people in that place for at least 30
minutes; perhaps as long as 60 minutes. In your report, describe the setting and note the
date and time of your observation. Describe the element of “community” that you
observed.
I spend the vast majority of my time at the hospital. I come into contact with a wide
variety from my community there. Just by spending my thirty-minute lunch in the corner café, I
can observe many people. My workplace is the only hospital nearby, it is located in Portsmouth
Ohio. Some people only know this town for the rampant drug epidemic that is going on. Sitting
and watching I can see all the people walking in the main entrance. If someone seems lost, there
is a person there to help them find their way. Security is always present at the main entrance. I
