In chapter four, we discussed perceiving others which is something I have always felt that
I was good at. I have worked in sales at my job for about four years and have picked up a lot of
skills in understanding what people want to hear and not stretching the truth. Being able to do
that has helped me make more sales and make the business more money. Being able to perceive
others also helps in relationships and knowing when to try to help someone or when to just let
them have their space.
In chapter five, we discussed language. Language can often be a barrier. Obviously,
there are different languages – English, Spanish, French, and so on. But there can also be
subtext in language used. In class, we talked about how the same phrase can be used in several
ways. “I’m going crazy,” can be said several ways. You could say it in aggravation, meaning
you’re getting tired of the way something is happening in your life. You could say it with a hint
of sarcasm, like someone is annoying you a little bit but what they’re doing is cute so you let it
more than words could.
