Communication Process
Communication Process
The ability to effectively communicate with others is one of the most important aspects of business.
Mobile technology is allowing businesses to make processes easier and more efficient to improve
productivity (Smith, 2016). Although there are constant advances in mobile technology which provide
additional communication mediums and channels, they are not always effective. For communication to
be effective, it requires not only the message to be sent, but also requires effective feedback from the
receiver.
As communication mediums continue to expand and improve, the channels used must also expand and
improve. If channels are not up to date with technology, the effectiveness of communication can fail.
Businesses may have the “latest and greatest” mediums and channels to send a message, but if the
receiver cannot get the message in its full context because their mobile devices are outdated, they lose
the ability to respond and provide feedback, and effective communication is lost. Many communication
mediums are improving their technologies to coincide with updates to channels, but too often these
updates are not compatible with the users’ device.
The use of mobile technology by businesses to communicate to their employees and both current and
potential customers has elevated the issue of ethical communication. “Ethical communication includes
all relevant information, is true in every sense, and is not deceptive in any way” (Bovee & Thill, 2016, p.
16). In today’s world, even if a business is transparent by truthfully providing all the relevant
information, the audience often makes their own decision as to whether the information is true. The use
of social media as a medium for such information can quickly turn into chaos. As viewers communicate
their own thoughts and beliefs of the information was provided, the initial intent of the information is
quickly lost and replaced with assumptions and deception. Readers are too quick to believe only the last
thing they read.
