It would be hard to be an effective leader without the ability to communicate with the
individuals you are chosen to lead. James C. Humes said, “The art of communication is the
language of leadership.” Leaders need to be aware of their communication skills and should
work at improving them every day. As a strong communicator it will be easier for others to
approach you and aide in defining the type of leader you are. There are many different skills a
leader must learn to adapt in their lives in order to become an effective leader for others to
follow; some of them are listening skills, the different steps in leadership, and generational
communication.
Working on listening skills is important and will help a person understand a clear
message when someone is trying to communicate with them. So far in my professional career my
greatest strength when it comes to listening is I try to understand the whole message and I always
