COMMON ERRORS IN REVIEWING LITERATURE
Following a some “common error” tips that can occur in reviewing the literature for your dissertation.
These tips are offered by Stephen Isaac and William Michael (1997, p.39) as cited from Borg and Gall
(1989). I believe that these tips are so “on target” that I just had to share them with you. I especially draw
your attention to #6 which addresses the need to make sure that you copy your bibliographic information
correctly. It happened to me, at least once, where I had this “great” reference and then when I looked
through my notes to cite the specifics I had not included the page number. I spent most of the day
retracing my research, (going back into the ERIC data base and conducting a new search) just to find that
information. I could have saved myself those hours of frustration had I been more diligent up front.
Hopefully, my “hints” save you from doing the same. :)
