According to infoplease children ages 1-5 are the most susceptible to contract a common
cold. This is due to the fact that their immune systems are not strong yet and they have not
built up resistant to some of the cold causing viruses. Small children also are at risk due to
how they behave by putting toys in their mouth. The rhinovirus which is the most common
cold causing virus can live on skin or other surfaces for up to 3 hours so they can be
transferred easily.
Another group that is very weak to getting the cold according to WebMD is people with
other diseases that cause immune system deficiencies. This would include cancer patients
and people with the AIDS virus. The AIDS virus specifically targets your immune system
and sets out to weaken it so a cold virus can easily attack them. Cancer patients undergoing
chemotherapy also become very weak because the chemo kills cells in your body.
Another group according to WebMD that is weak against fighting off the common cold is
older adults. They not only are more susceptible but they might have a harder time getting
over the cold. The increase in their weakness to fend off the cold is due to their bodies
