Why does your professor think Columbus Day with the worst holiday?
The word ‘Holiday’ defines a day of festivity when people get a day off from work. In general, people
often appreciate holidays or weekends because that is when they could wind down a little bit and
devote some quality time to their family by outings or great dinner, etc. Columbus Day is marked as a
holiday in USA. Well a number of people detest this day as many think this day is referred to Christopher
Columbus who landed in United States of America on this very day. Many reckon, this is not necessary
to refer a day to a man who landed in United States of America with the perspective of committing
rotten deeds. In my opinion, why my professor does not appreciate Columbus Day probably because of
the fact I have just stated above.
With great pride, Christopher Columbus is also taken as the man who discovered that the Earth is not
flat, its round instead, whereas ancient Greeks proved that the Earth was round about 2000 years ago.
As a fact, he did not even discover America though mythology deceives children with all these. Little did
I know about all these information till I clicked to research about why professors or others loathe this
festival immensely.
As books say, Christopher Columbus had to persist against the odds to raise some supports for his
venture because none believed the Earth was round but him which is absolutely not true. Christopher
Columbus reached on the land of America to rob golds and other goods. He acquainted with the red
Indians at his first visit here, and at his second turn up to this country, he showed his true colors to
them, by stating that it’s his country and he has conquered this country since he discovered it and thus,
he claims the red Indians to flee the country and evacuate the land. Christopher Columbus was a
burglar, slaver and a murderer. He was seen as a rogue by many.
Today, when people distinguished the actual history behind Columbus Day and Columbus’s brutal act on
people, many are against this day since it is not vital to celebrate. Owing to this fact, I believe, my
professor takes a particular disliking over the view of celebrating this holiday by people. As I second this
