1. Colorfastness to Perspiration— AATCC 15 – 1997)
2. Abstract: This method is designed to evaluate the color change and staining due to
perspiration. Using the guidelines of AATCC 15 – 1997 Colorfastness to Perspiration.
Reasons for color change may vary due to bleeding, transference of color, or actual
color changes of the dye in the material. Fabric that comes in contact with cidic
perspiration may stain other materials that come in contact with the fabric. This
method simulates conditions where the fabric in close contact with another material
in warm conditions over unexpended period of time.
3. Objective: Applying an acid based solution to a fabric specimen, and adding heat
and pressure that simulates the actual wear conditions.
4. Materials and Methods:
1. Materials:
1. AATCC Perspiration Tester with plastic plates and 3.63kg weight fabric
specimen convection oven.
2. Multi-fiber fabric tester No. 49 (6 cm square)
3. AATCC Gray Scale for color change AATCC gray scale for staining
4. Balance with weight accuracy of +- 0.001 g
5. Lab or hand wringer or white AATCC blotting paper
6. Acid Perspiration solution (10 g sodium chloride)
1. 1 g Lactic acid 85%
2. 1 g disodium hydrogen phosphate make up to 1 liter distilled water
2. Methods/Procedure
1. Preparation: Before I started the experiment I made sure I had all my
materials. I measured by dry weight of my fabric specimen. I placed my test
specimen into a petri dish which had perspiration solution to a depth of 1.5
cm.
2. Testing Procedure: I waited for 30 minutes for my specimen to sit. Then I
removed the excess liquid from the swatch between two blotting paper
swatches. My swatch was placed between two plastic plates and then
mounted with all plates in the perspiration tester. I removed the weight from
the tester and placed the loaded tester in the preheated oven such that multi
fiber strips are perpendicular to the bottom of the oven. After the next day my
specimen was removed from the oven and then separated for evaluation
using the gray scale.
3. Evaluation: My colorfastness to perspiration experiment is evaluated by
measuring the color change in fabric specimen and transference of color to
the multi fiber swatch. I used the AATCC gray scale for color change to
qualify color change.
5. Results: AATCC MFF #1 (Filling Stripe)
6. Discussion: This experiment showed me how my fabric didn’t really change my
overall result. It should be noted that there is no significant example of apparent
bleeding.
7. Conclusion: My unsatisfactory perspiration fastness may be due to a migration of
color or it may be due to change in color of the dyed material.

Textile 2 Extra Credit
The webinar was very interesting to learn about how scientist make these colors relevant
to society. It gave me a more in depth view of what it takes to develop certain colors. Apparently
the colors in the Atlas go through market testing and focus groups to make sure they are
efficient. I learned that as time goes on and technology updates so does the process of
developing colors. This is so that they can get a faster, more efficient way to approve the colors.
They are thousands on colors on the atlas that vary from dark to light on the website. The pages
of the Atlas are se up to be viewed many different colors, and you can position it how you want.
For example on the website you can upload an image and the atlas will provide a color palette of
what colors are involved with the picture. You can also create color collections online where you
can put your favorites all together in order to make a folder. To find a specific color you can
search either the RGB, LAB, or HEX color by numerical value. To this day more and more
colors are being developed for fashion designers, buyers etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed the webinar cause it gave me an insight on a subject I wanted to
learn more about. This wasn’t my first webinar because being apart of the Human Ecology club
provides opportunities to go to fashion webinars. I attended a webinar that Dr. Clinton hosted
about a future in the fashion industry. She had guest speakers that took career paths in fashion
merchandising and how they are doing now. It was more hands on because we could talk to the
speaker and ask questions. I would love to go to more webinars in the future about fashion, the
future of technology and updates on modern day medicine.
My career goal is to ultimately get my masters degree, and then provide for my family. I
want to go on to get certifications that future jobs will like and see as a plus on my resume. The
knowledge I learned from the webinar can help me if I want to become a buyer or even help me
in the real world. I would love to use the atlas to create a mood board, or find the perfect color
for my future home. I can use the atlas to help me when I open my own business like when I
need to search colors for the perfect fabric look I want. This webinar helped me open my mind
up to another source of reference when it comes to colors. I can reference the
coloratlas.archroma for a free analysis of any color library I choose and I can even get a live
demo for a project id like to work on. This website could help me with any color scheme I’d like
use in order to work on a future project. Like if I wanted to make a concept board for my fashion
line. This would really help me in the long run.
In the webinar they said how their is 4320 new colors on top of the provided colors that
can be used and viewed by fashion designers. The atlas is optimized to eliminate color gaps and
overlaps. The webinar pointed out the importance of having the design chips and color standards
readily available for use.
This webinar was just around thirty minutes and very informative but I caught it around
the last ten minutes. I soaked up as much information as I could though.
