Colonialism!
Colonialism is the physical and psychological force of one culture to another through military or eco-
nomic conquest. This is evident in Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano as he tells the story
of how now a third world continent, was stripped of their wealth and resources by European Colonialism,
and also In The Congo, by David Van Reybrouck where he writes about King Leopold II’s sovereignty
and the enslavement of the Congolese in the late 19th century and tried to assimilate them to those in Bel–
gium, while they were forced to work on plantations and suffer widespread mutilation in the Congo.
Colonialism is an important topic for many reasons, but one of the most crucial it its creation of ethnic
hierarchy and the world’s obsession with white culture through psychological systems of racism, that
would often create situations that encouraged division between different complexions and ethnicities. It
helps to explain a lot about why the world is the way it is today, such as our Immense economic inequali-
ties, and our descriptions of nations being underdeveloped or uncivilized. My interpretation of colonial-
