Waking up on the Wrong Foot
I wake in a frantic state. Bewildered, I spring back to life and roll off my bed onto
the cold hard dorm room floor. I scramble to my feet and grab my phone to check the
time. I’m late. I shout my frustration and wake up my sleeping roommate. Not only did I
miss my lift, but I am now behind schedule for class. Peering down at my watch I notice
I now only have fifteen minutes to make it to class on time. I throw on my hoodie and
sweatpants as I whip my head around the room looking for my bag. I spot my bag in the
corner of the room under someone else’s sweatshirt. I pick up the bag and when I look
inside, I am met with realization and harsh reality. I peer into my bag and pull out my
books, last class my teacher alluded to a quiz on our reading assignments. I had not
completed the reading assignment and with the amount of time I still had before class I
