In today’s workplace, many employees are in flexible work arrangements. But what does
this mean? It means that employees can have flexible schedules from a variety of locations and
can also share jobs with other employees (Tank, 2019). Flexible work arrangements consist of
multiple areas. These areas include flextime, job-sharing, compressed workweek arrangements,
and telecommuting employees.
Flextime is the most popular and flexible work option for both employers and employees.
Flextime allows its employees this afternoon starting and ending times within limits determined
by the company. One of the benefits of the flex time is that workers are more likely to stay in the
organization if their company offers this flexibility (Tarkan, 2011). Flextime is also used as a
reward for employees. Often times, it is a cheap way for companies to reward employees by
giving this luxury. Flextime also allows employees to have a greater sense of a work-life balance
and also offers employees greater happiness at work. The last point I wanted to say about flex
time is that it may cut medical costs. For example, “employees at Bristol-Myers Squibb who use
flexible work arrangements scored, on average, 30 percent lower in stress and burnout than those
without flexibility” (Tarkan, 2011).
Next is job sharing, job sharing what’s two people share the responsibility of one full-
