Collective Wisdom Summary
Brian Hayes, a famous American scientist addresses the most used resource that people
use in society today, which would be the computer. I’ve always figured that a computer is more
than what it seems. Computers are more than what we think they are, it’s a way of living. We
know computers have programs that enable them to perform but I didn’t know that, forty years
ago we couldn’t even imagine being on our devices as free as we want. Hayes mentions when
electronic computers were rare and expensive, people would be charged and billed for their CPU
time. When people were getting billed for their time on a computer, numbers steadily declined as
more consumers realized they didn’t want to be monitored on when and how long they can use
