Code of Honor
The code of honor is one of the most important aspects of the battle for the warriors. In order to
achieve honor, a warrior must win glory through the battlefield. The code of honor is more
important to the warriors than their own lives.
The first example of the Code of Honor is when Hector’s wife Andromache begs him not to go
back into the battlefield to fight. Hector told his wife that he refuses to be a coward and pull out
of the battle. Hector would rather die as a hero with glory than to die of shame.
The Trojans and Greeks both display a Code of Honor in Book 7 when both sides agree on a day
to gather the dead for burial. By allowing both sides to give a proper burial was a sign of respect.
The warriors were able to take a break from the fighting long enough to do the right thing for the
fallen soldiers.
