In the article I read, there were a lot of things that are happening in the school system in
my hometown. I believe that teachers deserve much more money than they are given. Teachers
are disrespected, some are frowned upon, and unappreciated. Also, in this article it talks about
the reflect of student learners in the area of scholastic testing. In a previous class that I have
taken at Claflin, we researched the effectiveness of standardized testing. Studies show that
standardized testing is broken down into several groups and each child falls into a different
group. This also relates to the article because students are affected by standardized testing. Those
who come from a more progressive educational background may have it easier versus someone
who comes from a household where mom and dad cannot read. There are programs there are put
in place for students to receive that extra help so no child is left behind. However, it is the
responsibility of the parent to address the need for their child’s education. There are instances
were school have had an intruder enter the school and take innocent lives and in response, one
solution that was given is that teacher should be able to carry a weapon in the school for
protection purposes only. I believe there should be a better system of protection in the school.
However, allowing teachers to bring in weapons is a reach in my opinion. Yes, there should be a
type of defense mechanism that protects teachers, students, faculty and staff from any harm or
danger. In the near future, I hope schools become heavily secure from any outsider entering with
any type of weapon.
