“A Clash of Dramas”
While at first glance Susan Glaspell’s “Trifles” and Sophocles “Antigone” may seem
completely different works written about 2000 years apart and presenting a completely different
time and way of life, they also offer some compelling similarities. Both of these plays feature
strong minded women going against their traditional gender roles of that time and attempting to
change the standard that was set before them. They also involve male characters that attempt to
put these women back in their place and bring them back down to a level where they are in
control. While these compelling similarities exist, “Antigone” provides a far more in depth
