Summary of Why It Worked: A Rhetorical Analysis of Obama’s Speech on Race

Analysis is breaking down the whole into pieces for the purpose of examination. Overall,
according to A Guide to Rhetoric, Genre, and Success in First-Year Writing, the goal of a
rhetorical analysis is to identify what is happening in the text, why the author might have chosen
to use a particular move or set of rhetorical moves, and how those choices might affect the
