Chunyun railway system and related problems

Abstract: Chunyun causes a heightened traffic loading and pressure on all public transportation. The main
focus of this paper is analyze its impact on railway system, the most affordable way of
transportation which is also the most affected by Chunyun.
§1. Introduction
Chunyun (simplified Chinese: 春春) refer to the spring festival travel season, usually begins 20 days before
Lunar New Year’s day and lasts for around 40 days. In recent decades, the number of passengers who
travel during this period of time has raised from 0.1 billion in 1970 to 3.7 billion in 2015. The amount of
passengers equals half of earth population, media refers this as the largest annual human migration in the
world. Many passengers are workers and students who return home from work or study outside their
home town and reunion with their family on New Year’s Eve. While others are travelers who choose to
travel during their one of few week-long holiday of the year.
