Salvation
This article about salvation is comparing and contrasting the New and Old Testaments in
four different ways. The first way is through recipients. In the Old Testament, all the people of
Israel are saved from slavery and other people, whereas in the New Testament, only individuals
are saved from physical danger, evil or death. The second comparison is through agents. In the
Old Testament there is deliverance through others such as Abraham and Moses, with God’s role
preeminent. The New Testament focuses on the deliverance by Jesus Christ or his disciples.
Another comparison is through the Nature of salvation. In the Old Testament there is worldly
salvation with spiritual cleansing, whereas in the New Testament the focus is on the Kingdom of
God with spiritual forgiveness and the gift of the spirit. The last comparison I will mention is
mediation. In the Old Testament God is the mediator, versus in the New Testament Jesus is the
mediator.
