In an already arduous task of attempting to affirm the the existence of God, there lies two
antithetical approaches that have both tried to approach God, albeit in two very different
mindsets. Firstly, there is the approach called apophatic mysticism, or “negative theology”, is a
type of theological thought where one should approach and affirm God only in terms of what
may not be said about the ethereal entity we call God (McGinn 281). The other school of thought
known as cataphatic mysticism is based off the theological thought that God can be affirmed
through positive assertion of what God is, usually within nature (McGinn 281). The cataphatic
