Chris and Alison Weston Kevin Martinez
The discussion about this case was intense and complicated. Seeing how things turned out
for Chris and Alison was expected. Individuals who commit fraud should always be held
responsible for their actions. Once you commit fraud, that title is going to be held against
you everywhere you go. Even though Chris made his company extremely profitable, his
methods were unethical, irrational and unacceptable.
Being held responsible for committing unlawful actions is necessary. I agreed with the
methods the company took against Chris Weston. By overcharging customers and not
reporting unethical behaviors, he was able to make the company very profitable. But he
was also stealing a lot of money. Therefore I think that it is not worth taking the risk of
breaking the law for my own interest.
A good example that’s related to Chris’ case is the Bernie Madoff scandal. His atrocious
business practice of deceiving people and stealing money was completely unlawful. This is
good lesson about deceiving people and committing fraud. No matter how good of a liar
you are, you will always leave a trail.
Seeing how some people in the classroom responded to this argument was shocking. It is
understandable the situation people are put it sometimes. But I strongly disagree to those
who would not make Chris responsible for his actions. He is as much to blame as the next
guy is.
In conclusion I believe that this is case is a good learning experience. It identifies how
significant it is to commit fraud in the business world. Not only is there jail time, but your
name and reputation is ruined. Practicing good business ethics is essential to understand
personal and value and the values of your job.
