The Choice of Life or Death
Imagine you have been going through your terminal lung cancer diagnosis for over a year
now. You are in the final stages with no hope of recovery. Chemo has failed, radiation, and
medical has failed, now it is a waiting game. That game is death. The doctors say they can’t tell
how much time you have left and you have already said your good byes and made you piece with
your loved one.
In this paper, I will examine assisted suicide and argue that people should have the right
to choose to end their own life. Opponents to my position hold that this is unethical and legal
murder. However, I believe this objection can be effectively overcome by considering a person’s
quality of life and pain and suffering.
