Chinese Mothers vs. Western Parents
Many people have different ways of raising their children. Chua (2014) talks about the
differences between a “Chinese mother” and a “Western parent” in her book, Battle Hymn of The
Tiger Mother. As she explains all the differences between “Chinese mother” and “Western
parent”, a person would be very surprised at just how different each one is. Some people consider
themselves “Western parents”. However, if one was to meet a “Chinese mother” they would
know they have, she would more than likely have a lasting impression. “Chinese mothers have
strong traditional Chinese values and parenting practices (including minimal leisure or
nonacademic socializing, sanctions for any grades less than excellent, and classical music
