The two republics of India and China have an opposing political regime with
China being a fundamentally stable country. (Desai, 2003) However, China lacks a
distinct authority figure by being a single-party state controlled by the Chinese
Communist Party since 1927. (Wang and Minzner, 2015) On the other hand, India has
always been a federal parliamentary as well as a democratic republic state where the
head of the state is the President and the head of the government is the Prime Minister.
The politics of India and China are a result of the historical legacies of these two
countries. As far as India is concerned, it faces the problems of achieving unity in
diversity, accommodating various languages and religions as part of its political
structure in such a way that it can maintain its territorial integrity as well as enough room
for diversities in language and religion to develop. Another problem that India faces is
maintaining a single vision of India as a nation as before the mid-19th century it was a
mix and match of races and religions thrown together as a motley collection. India’s
biggest fear is the breaking up of its territorial unity like when the partition occurred as it
is a soft state. (Myrdal, 1968)
On the other hand, China has always seen itself as a united nation and
throughout the Chinese history, we have seen that China is a strong central power run
on a unitary front. The Communist party in China is against federalism and sees it as
feudalism. (Shirk, 1993) China also has its minorities like India but is viewed as a single
unitary country of the Han people who are said to be a solid homogeneous mass. Even
though there are many differences between the Mandarin and Cantonese, the language
is the same for most of the Chinese population. China is said to be a hard state which is
capable of pursuing a single goal or multiple goals depending on the situation. We can
see this through its’ building the Great Wall of China, the system of the grand canal and
the Great Leap Forward. (Runckel, 2018)
Let’s talk about the regime of China which the CCP or the Chinese Communist
Party has in place to protect human interests as up till now, the Chinese government is
being criticized over its human rights issues as well as other political issues. Much of
the regimes of the Chinese government have been passed down but they are poorly
regulated however since the Peking government entered the World Trade Organization
in 2001, it has changed and improved its regime hence the playground for market
imperfections in China will not last long. (Deng, 2000)
On the other hand, India has seen high levels of corruption in its domestic
business behavior like fraudulent behaviors as well as bribery of the government
officials and civil servants which creates an unlevel playing field. India follows a dual
policy system i.e. a double government where at the center is the central authority and
the states reside on the periphery level. (Kumar, 1984) The political system of India is
recently constructed, and the Constitution of India has seen many changes made to it
since India’s independence in 1947. ( Karim, 2013)
Where the Strengths and weaknesses of China are concerned, China has
experienced a very high and unprecedented economic as well as political development
that worries as well as fascinates the most powerful countries of the world. Some of the
strengths of Chinese political system are as follows;
1. One-party system which makes sure that Chinese political system is not affected
by the alternation of parties which have different positions and ideologies.

2. High-Efficiency and effective reaction to emerging and catastrophic challenges
and opportunities like in the case of the Wenchang earthquake where China
impressed the whole world with its fast and efficient response.
3. Effective containment of corruption as compared to India and Russia.
4. More responsible government where the principal officials of the system are held
responsible for their incompetence as well as negligence even after their term
ends.
5. One party representation where the CCP or the Chinese Communist Party
represents all the people of China whereas in India and/or the USA, each party
represents different interest groups.
6. Second largest economic power in terms of nominal GDP and first in terms of
