Abstract
This study will examine by what means parental infidelity can potentially influence
children’s perceptions of love, marriage and intimate relationships. The objective is to provide an
understanding into emerging relationships patterns in children who have experience infidelity in
the home and as a result has affected their perception of these aspects. The information was
researched by reviewing literature on the University of the Southern Caribbean library database
and journals articles. Results showed that Infidelity affects the entire family, immediate and
extended. However, parental infidelity causes children to have mixed feelings about
relationships, which has impacted their cognitive processes and their perceptions about
relationship successes. Additionally, divorce as a trivial factor also conjures negative sentiments
related to these aspects towards the child or children. It is proven that between parental infidelity
and the children, a connection exist with the child’s views on the aspects of love, marriage, and
intimate relationships.

Introduction
The attempt of this study is to explore how parent’s infidelity may affect a child’s perceptions of
love, marriage, and intimate relationships. A lot of couples promise to love their significant other
till death do them apart, but research has proven this vow to be broken after seven years.
Statistics show infidelity is one of the leading causes of matrimonial disruption and separation
and one in every three marriages ends in divorce. The purpose of the study is to examine and
provide an understanding into developing relationships patterns in children who have experience
infidelity in the household and as an end result has affected the children opinion of these aspects
of love, marriage and intimate relationships. Exploring this study will provide knowledge into
the impact of this specific event on the children perceptions of love, intimate relationships and
marriage.

Children of parental infidelity perspective of love is affected when the children themselves finds
out about the unfaithfulness. Their perception will change as they look at their parent as the ideal
role models for them. They may not recognize and understand the change but studies suggest in
recent years, family of origin influences children attitudes toward marriage has received much
attention. Learning of a parent’s disloyalty, the child usually find it extremely difficult if not
impossible to trust that someone they love will not lie to them, reject, or abandon them. They
very often learn not to put their reliance in love and they may also feel that they are not worthy
