Problem Identification
One policy which has recently been in the forefront of the news is the mandating of
childhood vaccines at the state level. This policy has recently received media attention when
several individuals contracted measles after visiting Disneyland this past January. Due to this
outbreak, California passed a bill which mandates that all children must receive the required
vaccinations in order to attend school unless they have a medical exception. Any child that does
not receive the required vaccinations will not be allowed to attend school. Instead, these children
will need to be homeschooled. Now that California has passed this strict law, it is only a matter
of time for other states to enact the same requirements.
