Case study:
Chase is a fifth-grade boy diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. He has all the signs to
be a child with autism because we can see the disability affecting social interaction and
verbal and nonverbal behavior. He has an inappropriate behavior (staying physically so
close to other people). Playing alone at the playground means that he has a lack in social
interaction. He asked Ms. McKenna about things that he was interested in (such as video
games and broken glasses) and very passionate about, and he did not wait her response to
ask the next question, but he throughout all the question before letting her talk. Typical
problem for social communication lack is language deficits and he had it (he did not talk
too much, his voice was unnatural, flat and robotic). He was repeating the some
movements while he was playing basketball (which means that he is repetitive). Chase is a
good students to some areas and had difficulties comprehending, writing, and word
problems. What was very concerning for Ms. McKenna is his explosive behavior which
some people with this disability have it (they yell threat, through staff away, ripe, and says
curse words).
Chase parents were so supportive, but they tried to stay inside of the house. It is such a
