Article Review: Positive Early Experiences
In the article Positive Early Experiences Pay off for a Lifetime, author Dr. Eraina Schauss
emphasizes how important it is that children have many positive life experiences in the first three
years of their life. To begin, Schauss describes the importance of her work and teaching to the
readers taking special consideration to note how critically important it is that not only parents,
but also everyone who encounters a young child provides a positive experience or impression.
Backing her claim, Schauss highlights how the more positive or negative experiences a child has
in the first three years of their life can directly relate to their actions and lifestyles when they are
adults. When young children are given more positive experiences from relatives, or even
strangers, that child is more likely to grow up and become a more healthy adult (i.e. no criminal
behavior, respectful to others, understanding of their role in society, etc.); whereas, if a child
experiences more negative impressions at a young age, then they are much more likely to grow
