Cherry Orchard analysis
A hard working son of a serf, Yermolay Lopakhin is perhaps the most detrimental
character in The Cherry Orchard written by Anton Chekhov. Lopakin guides the narrative of the
story by providing support to the theme through key moments. Lopakhins main three attributes
such as remaining quiet through the first two acts, buying the cherry orchard and chopping down
the trees, symbolizes the theme; the continuous changing of life and class structure. The
changing of the class structure is represented by the cherry orchard, all of which each character is
experiencing differently.
The russian serfs were emancipated 10 years prior, which Lopakhin notably mentions
