Character Analysis Essay
The play The Crucible, by Author Miller, is an enchanting story about the people of
Salem trying to rid their town of the Devil. The Salem Witch Craft Trials took place in 1692
when a group of young girls decided to go “dancing” in the woods but the town believed they
were conjuring spirits. Among the girls was their ring leader Abigail Williams, who blew
everything out of proportion. Abigail Williams is a smart girl, who lies and threatens others to
make sure she covers her tracks.
One would describe Abigail as smart when she stabs herself in the stomach after Mary
Warren places a needle in the poppet that she gives to Goody Proctor. Abigail leads everyone to
believe that Goody Proctor’s spirit come and stabbed her. Cheever tells Mr. Proctor this when he
comes to the Proctor house and states “…and stuck two inches in the flesh of her belly, he draw
