A Trip with the Grandmother
Grandparents have outlived us all and with that comes lots of knowledge, wisdom, and things to
say about those younger than them. The unnamed grandmother in Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good
Man is Hard to Find” is no different. She is sweet to her grandchildren, but she is quite critical of
everyone else around her. She thinks very highly of herself and because of that, finds ways to
manipulate others in order to get what she wants. This grandmother also has a childish side to her
