As we moved on to the 17th century things change drastically there are two countries
staking claim to the land. It’s the Dutch and English and they are starting to clash. The western
part of Long Island was the Dutch and the eastern part of Long Island was the English. There
was 100s of miles of forest in between them that was still Indian territory. As they start to clash
the English set up permanent colonies along the east coast. This starts to affect the Dutch
trading since they didn’t come to set up permanent roots in the new land. They came for the
trade of tobacco, sugar and slave trade.
