1. What is Ms. Norbury’s purpose with the two exercises she does where the girls close
their eyes? How does it enhance the communication climate and empathy level among
the girls? I feel like the purpose of the girls closing their eyes is to see who really will be
honest without having to be put on the spot. When they opened their eyes, they all
realize they have the same issues. I feel like it enhances all the communication climates
and empathy level. Because it is acknowledging, endorsing, and reconditioning all the
problems. Ms. Norbury is trying to bring all the girls back together which she does with
the communication climate triangle.
2. Norbury says, “You all have got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes
it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores”. Do you agree with her assessment?
Discuss in terms of some of the concepts we have discussed in this course. Yes, because
guys see it as they call each other it and they don’t do anything about it. It rubs the
behavior off guys, so they do it because they think it’s funny and not really knowing it
does hurt feelings when it comes from both sides. this course concept is just like
“monkey see monkey do” because like I said behavior just rubs off on guys which
explains why they do it.
3. What style(s) of conflict management does Ms. Norbury use? Is the approach
effective in this situation? Discuss how well this approach would (or wouldn’t)
work in other conflict situations. The conflict management she uses is limiting the
negative while increasing the positive. I felt that it was effective in this case since
only negative things are being said and the fact that these girls needed to hear
more than that, it was able to make them feel better. This can and can’t work
because some of the apologies the girls were saying were sarcastic or putting
others on the spot. Sometimes it can make it escalate like how afterwards Regina
