1. List and explain 2 reasons how this chapter relates to fashion and cultural dress
issues for you. Include specific examples from your personal experience.
While reading this chapter I was able to relate to the information for two reasons. The
first reason being I too agree with the overall idea that time and space manage our appearances.
For example, where we are in our lives, may it be academically or economically are a huge
factor into decided what your daily attire would be. To be more specific now I have been
promoted to SMIT (store manager in training), I believe that my work attire should be more
professional and I should stray away from a “laid-back” look. I have now started to wear more
dress shoes, button-down shirts and kept my sneakers at home. The second reason I was able to
relate to this chapter is because I remembered when I first moved to San Francisco and what
motivated and influenced my style. I began to think that it all had to do with the place (San
Francisco), but after reading the chapter I came to the realization that my style was influenced
not only the place but also space. For example, I began to wear more urban/street-wear looks and
it all has to do with the abstract idea of cultural site.
