1. Using the stages of a relationship in your text, identify which relationship stage(s)
Kay and Arnold are experiencing. What characteristics of their relationship
demonstrate this stage? Please analyze and explain. kay and Arnold are in the
termination stage, and this is because their relationship is fading away. Some
characteristics are them not talking much, and not wanting to sleep together
anymore.
2. toward the beginning of the scene, Kay asks her coworker if a marriage can be
changed. What are your thoughts on this topic? Can partners in a marriage or a
romantic relationship in general change their relationship for the better? Explain
your answer. My thoughts on this topic is that if they both want the relationship
to change try will make it happen but it’s obvious that Arnold doesn’t want to put
in the effort to change
3. Your text notes strategies for managing relationships (see box 8.2). Which ones
do Kay and Arnold lack in their relationship? I think kay and Arnold are lacking
rewards like intrinsic and dialectical tensions such as contradictory feelings about
their relationship.
4. Which relational dialectic (dialectical tensions) is Kay primarily experiencing in
her marriage with Arnold? How is she managing this dialectical tension? Kay is
primarily experiencing Contradictory feelings about her relationship. She is managing
this by trying to make an effort such as asking Arnold if she can seep with tonight and
making him breakfast.
