1. Our text discusses the external environment which include six different dimensions (forces). Name
and adequately discuss each dimension (at least two sentences). Choose a random company that
you are at least somewhat familiar with and apply one of the six dimensions by discussing how the
dimension may affect this company. Include in your discussion the importance of the company being
aware of the external force, interacting with it and anticipating how the force might eventually effect
the company.
International dimension – This represents events emerging in foreign countries as well as opportunities
for US companies in other countries. The international dimension provides new competitors,
customers and suppliers, and shapes social, technological, and economic trends as well.
Technological dimension – Includes scientific and technological advancements in the industry and society
at large. An example of this would be the internet that didn’t exist 20 years ago.
Sociocultural dimensions – Representing the demographic characteristics, norms, customs and values of
the population within which the organization operates. Demographic characteristics such as age,
multiculturalism, cause people to stay healthier and work longer.
