Class Discussion Questions for 10/21/21 – Chapter 14: Consumer Protection
1. ‘Top 5’ – Consumer Protection
Safety, Choice, right to be informed, right to be educated on the product, right to
be heard
a. An example of a product recall? Did the company take the correct action?
An example of product recall is a faulty airbag in a car that gets recalled because
it does not work properly. The company did take the proper action because they allowed
for people to have their problem fixed so that it would not cause anyone physical harm.
b. An example of deceptive advertising?
An example of deceptive advertising is any product that is displayed or seen in a
commercial that doesn’t have a true price. For example, when you see a commercial for
a product and it says the price is 19.99 but it is actually 5 payments of 19.99
2. What is the best/most effective method for protecting consumers [see Figure 14.1, p.
305]?
The best/most effective method for protecting consumers is consumers being
conscious of what they are buying and the company having the consumers interests in
mind so that the consumer remains protected.
