Many towns has changed in lifestyle now so the development in supermarket is one of the
changes. Big companies now focus in developing in the center of town to change it rehear
then before. In this essay I will represent the view of consumers and local traders about
development in supermarket in Southampton according to the result of study that was
published by the University of Southampton in 2010.
Many customers see that evolution at the supermarket is very beneficial for them and their
families. An interest from it is being built near the homes of people so that it reduces the
cost of transportation and encourage them to go to market on foot. The result of University
of Southampton study about the impacts of foodstore developments on UK market towns
and district centres confirms that “The new supermarkets encourage a significant decrease
in car usage and increase in walking on main food shopping trips amongst local residents”
(Wrigley, Lambiri and Cudworth, 2010, p.2).
