This$article$explores$how$Paul$Levy$implemented$a$sweeping$change$management$
plan$that$saved$Beth$Israel$Deaconess$Medical$Center$(BIDMC)$as$an$independent$
nonJprofit$teaching$hospital.$$At$the$time$Levy$was$brought$in,$BIDMC$was$rapidly$
failing,$losing$$$50$million$a$year$amidst$demoralized$staff$and$strained$relations$
between$management,$administrative$staff,$medical$staff$and$the$Board$of$Directors.$
