Cesar Chavez one of the famous Hispanic’s known for his activism. He founded the UFWA (
United Farm Workers Association which helped improved safety, working conditions and pay
for migrant workers. Chavez was inspiration by this own personal experience from working to
pick grapes and cotton when he was just a child. Chavez was born in 1927 in Arizona his parents
where Mexican. His family owned a farm and local grocery store. When the Great Depression hit
the US, Chavez’s family lost their business which forced them to move to California to seek
work. When they found work they were listed as migrant workers and due to the work available
for them their family had to move according to the harvest cycle. Chavez stared eighth grade at
the 35th different school he had attended after he graduated from eighth graded he dropped out of
school and begin to work has a migrant worker full time.
