World War 1 made a major break in world history. There were many causes that lead up
to this war. One of the major causes that led to the war was militarism. Militarism played a big
part on the start of the war because armies were growing large between 1870-1914. During this
time Germany itself had 1,000,000 members. The growing armies lead to competition between
countries. This also lead to massive paranormal and countries started worrying about their
surrounding neighbors. Another major cause of the World War 1 the alliances. During this time
many alliances were being made. Austria/Hungary got Germany to join forces with them. Then
Italy teamed up with the A/H and Germany Alliance. However, Italy eventually switched sides
and made a deal with France that they wouldn’t help Germany. France and Russia became
aligned with one another and Britain eventually joined them as well. These joining alliances gave
each other more power in going into the war. Imperialism was another cause that lead up to the
war. Germany grew a rivalry with Britain and France because of the amount of land they owned
compared to the amount Germany had. Nationalism is another cause of the war. Although all
these causes played a big part in the start of the war, some believe that the war was going to
happen eventually regardless of all these causes.
When you think about all the countries that were involved in the war, you wonder who
was really to blame. To begin with, everything all started in June 28th, 1914 when Franz
Ferdinand was assassinated by who some believe to be the Serbian government. The
Austria/Hungary government took this as an opportunity to take control of Serbia. On July 23rd,
A/H sent a letter to Serbia with demands and said they would invade if they did not comply with
the demands. However, the A/H empire are concerned about going to war with Serbia because
they don’t want Russia to jump in. The A/H empire gets Germany to agree to help them around
July 5th. On July 25th, two days after the letter is sent to Serbia, Russia starts moving their army
to the boarder. At this point it is obvious that Russia is preparing for the oncoming war. Serbia
chooses not to respond to the letter until Russia is done preparing. After this the A/H military
spends two weeks farming to On July 28th, the A/H empire declares war Serbia. prepare for war.
