Casual Argument
The University of Florida Panhellenic Council is one of the more popular
subcultures known as “Greek Life”. The Panhellenic Council is an all womens’
council with 16 sororities on the UF campus. It was created along with three other
councils such as the National Panhellenic, Interfraternal, and Multicultural Councils.
Coming to such a large university, such as UF, is hard for many people to adjust to.
As a result, Greek Life was created to change that and make adjusting easier.
By creating a council filled with sororities of women who have similar values,
girls form stronger bonds in a much easier way. Everyone always says that you
meet your future bridesmaids in your sorority. It is less intimidating being
surrounded by a large group of girls when there are things in common among one
another. Each sorority is a large organization of roughly 300 members and
anywhere from 70 to 90 girls within each pledge class. With the possibility of
having 90 girls in your pledge class, there are high chances of seeing them on
campus and even in your classes. I personally have at least one member of my
sorority in all of my classes.
Also because of the large amounts of girls within the entire sorority, there
are chances of some girls having the same major as you. This is an advantage
because they have most likely taken some of your major required classes and can
give you great advice or help in the class. This is a huge advantage for a freshman

on campus because your sisters can warn you to not take a certain class because of
the professor. Your sisters can also advise you to take electives that provide easier
workloads and less stress so you can focus on the classes pertaining to your major
since those that affect you the most.
Not only are bonds made within your sisterhood but also with fraternities in
the Interfraternal Council on campus. Sororities in the Panhellenic Council are
paired with a fraternity from the Interfraternal Council weekily for tailgates, socials
or date functions. Girls in my sorority are friends with boys in almost all the
different fraternities on campus because of the events with do with them. As a
result, this has really helped them meet new people. By constantly alternating, you
are always going to be exposed to new people and potential new friends. Through
