Case Summary
The case that I will be studying is a medical negligence case involving Dr. Patrick Swier
as the defendant and Patricia McLeod as the plaintiff. This case is quite complex and has had a
lot of back and forth. As summarized in the case documents under “references on page 6 of this
paper”, The case initially began as a civil suit on December 1st, 2014 and ended on December
10th, 2014 by jury trial. The plaintiff, Patricia McLeod went to Dr. Swier’s medical office (Swier
Clinic) in 2010 to seek out help/care for numbness and tingling in her left leg and toes. Dr.
Swier recommended surgery despite test results and then proceeded to do 9 total separate
surgeries on the plaintiff. The defendant indicated that the plaintiff had severe nerve damage and
that the surgeries were completely necessary. The plaintiff argued that she did not want to have
the surgeries but she was “scared into doing so”. (Ref. Superior Court Case Document C.A. No.
