1. What are the issues that Gillian faces?
(1) The capacity of the milking demonstration in the milking parlor is insufficient during
peak-hours. Since the milking demonstration lasts from 4.30 p.m. to 7.00 p.m., with a
maximum capacity of 80 people per hour, only 3200 people can be received per month
by the milking parlor in maximum (80×2.5×4 ×4 = 3200 people/month). According
to the numbers of paying visitors in 1998, in July, the milking parlor has utilized all its
capacity to receive 3200 paying visitors, while in August, the total number of 3400
paying visitors has exceeded the maximum reception capacity, which could result in
lowering customer satisfactions and losing customers.
(2) The limited capacity of freezing equipment constrains the factory to produce more
finished ice-cream. Although the maximum mixing and fast-freezing capacity is 350
liters per day, more unfrozen ice-cream can be generated by increasing the total mixing
