Samsung Electronics Co. v. Apple
Samsung v. Apple is a well-known patent case that has been talked about for multiple
years, gone through appeals courts, and “is the first time a design patent case has been examined
by the Supreme Court since the 1800s”. The case began in 2011 when Apple sued Samsung
arguing that certain design elements of Samsung’s smartphones infringed upon specific patents
apple holds for design elements in the iPhone. Some of the products in question were the
Samsung galaxy, and the Droid because of their similar black, rectangular, round-cornered front
