656) and complete an analysis of the case by answering the following questions in a
written paper:
1. What are the issues surrounding the Jones case?
a. The issue surrounding the jones case is that the police placed a GPS device
on a car past the warrant’s deadline.
2. What was the ruling of the Supreme Court in this case and what was their rationale
for that ruling?
a. The ruling is that yes it was against jones fourth amendment because it was
passed the warrants deadline. Also the court reasoned that Jone’s car is a
personal “effect”, so attaching the GPS to the car to obtain evidence is a
search.
3. What is the significance of this case? In other words, why is it important to
consider in law enforcement operations?
a. The significance of this case is that between reliance on the trespass-based
standard and the reasonable expectation of privacy standard of the court’s
fourth amendment jurisprudence.
