Case Summary:
The National Cranberry Cooperative (NCC) is an organisation put up in the principal
growing areas of cranberry in North America like New Jersey and Washington for
growers of the fruit to sell their produce. In the recent years, one of the trends that
emerged was the growing surplus of cranberry. As a result, an act came up which
enabled the growers to regulate the size of the crop. The second trend which came up
was the increasing mechanization in particular water harvesting. This caused an
increase in the yield but also led to some problems. Receiving Plant Number 1 or RP1
utilised the water harvesting method. Though it received both fresh fruit and process
fruit, the case discusses only the process fruit operations.
