Case 8 NASCAR’s Racing Team
As I was reading this case I was began to understand the important of teamwork and
how vital it is to being successful. Evernham’s tactics showed that solid teamwork would
allow a group of individuals to be able to function flawlessly and effective, giving them a
competitive advantage. The way he was able to manage and cultivate a group of individuals
to be able to all work cohesively together for the sake of the team shows that he was an
extraordinary leader who was able to motivate his employees to accept losses to achieve
something greater. With the contribution of everyone they are able to achieve team success
and possibly win the ultimate prize, which would be a championship. Furthermore, I also
realized what it would take for me to become a successful leader like Evernham was. I
learned what to expect from my team and how to properly motivate and encourage them to
learn as much as they can, what type of people, to recruit, and the type of work ethic that
needs to be developed to maintain and continue the success of previous leaders.
As stated in the article he NASCAR teams all race with almost identical cars. Each
team has access to the same car and the same equipment for the most part. So what sets
them apart? The teamwork of everyone working together is the difference maker.
Whichever team can get each car out the fastest from the pit stops will have the advantage.
And when you are traveling at 200 miles per hour or more a one second advantage could be
the difference maker. Alongside with the leadership skills that Evernham demonstrated
from his tenure as Jeff Gordon’s Crew Chief. He was able to unite and fortify his team to
