Career Exploration

This Career Exploration Assignment was something I really enjoyed researching based off my own set of
interest and skills through the assessment. Makes total sense why I always watch Live PD and Live
Rescue now! It was amazing to see the different states wages and to see who had to highest pay. I always
knew first responders were very courageous and amazing at what they do, but this really put a spin on my
career interest after taking this assessment. I think it was spot on, and these are things I will be looking
into for future career opportunities!
Firefighter
a) Skills – Control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life, property, or the
environment is at risk. Duties may include fire prevention, emergency medical service, hazardous
material response, search and rescue, and disaster assistance.
b) Knowledge-
• Competence with relevant medical equipment
• Computers and related software
• CPR and other emergency medical skills
• Fire inspection skills, including knowledge of the uniform fire code
• Fire-fighting related incident reporting, record-keeping, computer, and paperwork skills
• Firetrucks and other vehicles and fire-fighting equipment
• Fundamental math and science education
• The details of public utility infrastructure, such as gas, plumbing and electrical lines, location of
